Rates and Fees
UC Berkeley groups may use the 74 Barrows facility for appropriate training purposes
at no charge during normal business hours. Customized software installation is available,
but software must be received by the instructional scheduler at 2195 Hearst Ave at
least three weeks before the first reservation. If the
installation, configuration, and testing of specialized software requires more than
4 hours, an installation fee will be assessed at $40 per hour thereafter. Printing
is limited to 200 pages per person. Once credit is exhausted an additional 200 pages
per person will cost $12.00 per person (total number of students in the class will be
charged). Groups are responsible for securing the facility after use. Any facility
damage will be billed to the responsible group.
Lab Priority and Availability
74 Barrows is designed to facilitate training for campus-wide projects. Preference will be given to training
efforts geared toward supporting campus-wide applications. Groups wishing to reserve this facility will fall
into one of two groups:
Clients may apply for 'preferred' status during the first two weeks of each semester. To apply, please send an email to the Instructional Scheduler at reserve@berkeley.edu with the following information:
Regardless of 'preferred' status, all reservations submitted within the appropriate time frame will be prioritized in the order received. All reservations must be submitted at least ten business days in advance of a requested reservation date (including basic reservations using pre-existing software). Reservations requiring installation of customized software must provide a copy of the software on CD media, installation instructions (as a text file on the CD or on paper), and appropriate proof of licensing at least three weeks before the first reservation. A class folder can be made available for a computer account but must also be requested at least three weeks before the first reservation.
Cancellation
Please contact the Instructional Scheduler at reserve@berkeley.edu or call 643-6248
if you do not plan to hold class on your reserved day. Advanced notice of at least five business days
is requested so that the slot can be released to other groups. Classes that do not provide adequate notice of
cancellation or fail to appear without notification for a total of three reserved dates during a six month period may
forfeit future scheduled reservations.
Class Folders
Write access to the server is only available for class instructors. An instructor account can be created that allows full access to the class
folder. This lets an instructor modify, add, or delete files in the class folder. Students then have the ability to view and copy files in
the class folder without being able to alter any of the folder contents. The instructor account information must not be distributed and all
changes made to the class folder when using this account are permanent. You may request a class folder at the time of your reservation,
please note that this request must be submitted at least three weeks before the first reservation.
Student accounts will not be given write access to a class folder. However, they can utilize USB devices, CD-R, or file storage service on the web (such as WebFiles) to save coursework.
Printing
Printing is available upon request for all reservations and is limited to 200 pages per student. Printing is for reservation use only and not
for personal purposes. Monitoring of this policy will be the responsibility of the instructor. Once the printing allocation is reached,
printing will be turned off for the class. The group must contact the Instructional Scheduler at
reserve@berkeley.edu to request additional credit at a rate of $12.00 per student for another 200 pages each (total number of students in
the class will be charged).
Billing
UC Berkeley groups may use the 74 Barrows facility for appropriate training purposes
at no charge during normal business hours. Following the completion of a reservation
fees may be calculated based on billable installation time, printing, and any damage
done to the facility during a reservation. A valid BFS COA (Berkeley Financial Systems
Chart of Account) string will be requested in these cases so that we can generate a
Non-Payroll Expenditure Adjustment Request (UFIN 120) at the end of a reservation.
If you need assistance or have questions about this policy, please contact the Instructional Scheduler: Nicole Sattler, reserve@berkeley.edu or (510) 643-6248.
